What Is Recovery Like Following Laser Skin Resurfacing?
After lighter resurfacing treatments, a healing ointment will be applied to the skin, and you can return home for your recovery. The treated skin will appear red, and there may be some irritation and swelling. This should subside within a couple of days, and the peeling process will occur over a 3 – 5-day period. If you are receiving a more intense resurfacing procedure, your downtime will take longer. The treated areas will most likely be protected with dressings, and the irritation, burning, and swelling sensation may be more intense. Pain medication can be prescribed to help reduce these symptoms. The downtime for a more intense laser procedure may last 2 – 3 weeks. All patients need to limit their UV exposure following their laser session and use sun protection throughout the day.
